ABOUT THE KONMARI METHOD

It is not a mere tidying method but rather an approach that will enable you to become capable of tidying up. I know… most people are not “taught” how to organise themselves. Somehow it seems to be something that everybody is capable of doing. Still, we find ourselves having exhausting sessions of tidying just to have to do it all over again. However, the cause is not a lack of skills but rather a lack of awareness.

This tidying process is not about decluttering or making thing looks nice by concealing the things you don’t need under a lid. Instead, it is about tidying up in a way that will spark joy in your life and change it forever. It is about experiencing that feeling of contentment every day.

Believe in yourself and commit to the method. Think about what kind of home you want to live in and how you want to live in it. Seriously consider the ideal lifestyle to which you aspire, then discard the items that you no longer want. Only then will you have a real grasp of how much needs to be stored. You must tidy by category, not by location. This allows you to see objectively how much you own. Following the right order (clothes, books, papers, komono, and sentimental items) will help you to hone your ability to distinguish what sparks joy. In the end, you are not choosing what to discard but rather what to keep. Once you have let go of the things that have been in your life with gratitude you will appreciate and cherish the things in your life more. Our goal on tidying should be to create a living environment filled with the things we love. By the time you finish, you’ll see something you love everywhere you look.

Think of me as a coach. When you feel stuck, I’ll help you to get through the difficult times and then, we can work together at organising and storing every item (we’ll find a home at your home for every single thing). Once you have experienced what your house feels like when it is completely tidy in the true sense of the term, you will never return to clutter; you will learn an approach that you will be able to use forever.

FAQ

HOW IS A TYPICAL FIRST SESSION?

After greeting your home, and checking the available storage, we will start with clothes. We will “joy check” every item and define whether you will keep it or let it go with gratitude. I’ll keep you motivated and focused on the task at hand and help you to avoid feelings of guilt or feeling overwhelmed. Once we finish, I’ll teach you how to fold your clothes so they can be stacked neatly against one another.

DO I NEED TO BE PRESENT?

Yes, the method requires a personal reckoning. It involves clutching each object and having the will to throw away even the most sentimental dust-gatherers.

DO I REALLY NEED TO SAY, “THANK YOU” AND “GOODBYE”?

Yes. Once you have thanked each discarded object for the joy they once gave you, acknowledged their contribution and let them go, the things that you really treasure will remain at home.

CAN I DISCARD OTHER FAMILY MEMBER’S POSSESSIONS?

Sadly, no, you can’t. Devote your attention to confront your things, your house will become visibly cleaner and before you know it, you will be feeling calm and relieved. Inspired by how happy you look, they’ll begin showing interest in tidying themselves.

WILL THIS WORK WITH MY KIDS?

Of course, it is all about teaching them to express gratitude and for sure they will catch the tidying bug too.

WHAT IS THE FREQUENCY AND LENGTH OF YOUR SESSIONS?

Sessions are typically between three-five hours long depending on your possessions; most clients are very eager to finish the process promptly so having one or two sessions per week. Some clients space out their sessions, again we evaluate every client’s circumstances and decide together what is best.

DO I NEED TO PURCHASE ANY STORAGE?

No, you don’t. That’s why it is very important to discharge first. Storage only falls into place at the very end. Any storage solution is temporary until you finish all categories. However, some boxes and manila folders may help to improve the process.

IT IS VERY HARD FOR ME TO LET GO, IS STILL THE METHOD FOR ME?

Definitely. We can work together on identifying why it is so hard for you to let go. You will be surprised at how many of the things you own have already fulfilled their role.

DO I NEED TO CLEAN MY HOUSE BEFORE WE START?

Believe me, your house is nor the worst I have seen, so don’t worry, we will be doing a big mess while doing the joy check, so I prefer you save all that energy for the actual marathon.

CAN WE DO JUST ONE ROOM?

As a Konmari Consultant, I follow the method, meaning we work together to sort things through by categories, not by room. However, if you believe you need help with a specific category, I can help you. I will need to learn what things sparks joy for you; this will ensure that you get a good result.

ABOUT US

I grew up sharing my room with my sister, cherishing incredible memories and some fights as well about who was “the organised one.”  However, I realize now that our “organised” room rarely lasted more than a week.

Many years had to pass by to discover -thanks to Marie Kondo, that the problem wasn’t my sister. It was my possessions and how I didn’t treasure them enough.

After discovering Marie Kondo’s books,’ The magic of tidying up’ and ‘Spark joy’, and doing a tidying marathon, I learned the amazing power of the method. After that, I wasn’t just living in my own power spot, but I discovered amazing things along the way. I could see clearly what I needed in life.

My home is not perfect by any means, it would be boring and honestly, with two young kids, that’s nearly impossible. But I know that one can have a neat home that is awesome and reflects the values and souls of the people that make it warm and real.
